The conservatoire was established in 1965 as Leeds Music Centre, offering a Light Music course with significant focus on jazz. In 1993 we became Leeds College of Music launched the first jazz degree in Europe. We have since broadened our portfolio of courses to include many music performance and composition specialisms, production and music business. In 2019 we launched our first performing arts degree in Musical Theatre, which was followed by degrees in Acting and Actor Musician. In 2020, we became Leeds Conservatoire, to reflect our specialist approach and expansion in to drama training.

Leeds Conservatoire prides itself on making conservatoire education accessible to all. In 2019, we became the first UK conservatoire to remove audition fees for all courses.
