Leeds Conservatoire

Leeds Conservatoire offers specialist music and performing arts training to a community of over 1200 students. Our broad offering spans undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, numerous short courses and Leeds Junior Conservatoire for young musicians and performers.

Situated in the heart of Leeds’ vibrant cultural quarter, the conservatoire is artistically ambitious, quality-driven and industry-focused, placing strong emphasis on developing career-ready musicians, performers, composers, producers and entrepreneurs. Our students have access to state-of-the-art facilities, and are taught by a team of experts who are active professionals within the creative industries.

The conservatoire was established in 1965 as Leeds Music Centre, offering a Light Music course with significant focus on jazz. In 1993 we became Leeds College of Music launched the first jazz degree in Europe. We have since broadened our portfolio of courses to include many music performance and composition specialisms, production and music business. In 2019 we launched our first performing arts degree in Musical Theatre, which was followed by degrees in Acting and Actor Musician. In 2020, we became Leeds Conservatoire, to reflect our specialist approach and expansion in to drama training.  

Leeds Conservatoire prides itself on making conservatoire education accessible to all. In 2019, we became the first UK conservatoire to remove audition fees for all courses. In addition, we provide travel bursaries to those from low-income households, in order to ensure that the application process is open to all.
